A Fond Goodnight
By Nadine L.
Bedtime Stories should put you to sleep
More quickly than warm milk
Or counting sheep.
Faster than naming
The stars in the sky,
Just like a mother’s lullaby.
Bedtime stories should
Not be too scary
With giants, ogres or
Monsters so hairy.
No cackling witches with pointy hats
In haunted castles filled with bats.
Bedtime stories shouldn’t
Make you feel cranky,
But warm and fuzzy
Like your favorite blankie
So that you can drift off
As quick as you please
And sleep through the night
With the greatest of ease.
Bedtime stories should have wondrous things
Like rainbows, wizards,
And fairies with wings.
Where children and puppies
Can learn how to fly
Wishes come true
And dreams never die.
Bedtime stories should be quite grand
Transporting you to a magic land
Where fireflies light up the sky
And angels on moonbeams go gliding by.
A land of delights,
That make children’s eyes
Grow wider than
Chocolate marshmallow pies.
The bewitching hour is growing near,
It’s time for the sandman to reappear
To all you little sleepyheads
Snuggling in your cozy beds.
Now that we’ve turned the very last page,
It’s time for your dreams
To appear on the stage.
So close your eyes,
Turn out the light.
I bid you all a fond goodnight.
Goodnight, ________.
