Cotton Candy and the Big Mouth Frog

By Bonnie H.

Once there was a frog that was born with a BIG mouth. It was so big he talked funny. When he greeted new friends he always said “HI THERE, I AM THE BIG MOUTH FROG, WHAT IS YOUR NAME?”

Big Mouth Frog had lots of friends, but he was looking for someone special. Someone that was okay with his “big” mouth. One day when he went to the pond, he saw a beautiful frog. She was all kinds of colors — green, pink, purple and yellow. He had never seen such a pretty frog.  So, he hopped on over and said, “HI THERE, I AM THE BIG MOUTH FROG, WHAT IS YOUR NAME?”

The girl frog said, “Hi Big Mouth Frog, my name is Cotton Candy.”

Big Mouth Frog said, “Oh, that is a pretty name!”

The two of them became big buddies. Each day Big Mouth Frog would visit Cotton Candy and they would play all day around the pond and in the nearby woods. One day he decided he wanted to take Cotton Candy to the Fair that was in town.

“HI THERE COTTON CANDY, WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO TO THE FAIR WITH ME?”

Well, Cotton Candy did not know what the Fair was, but she said, “Sure, Big Mouth Frog!”

So the two of them took off for their new Fair adventure. When they arrived, Cotton Candy could not believe all the lights and sounds of the Fair. She could immediately smell the food, and asked Big Mouth Frog for something to eat.

Big Mouth Frog thought for a moment, and then asked, “How about trying some cotton candy?”

“Sure, but what is it?”

Big Mouth Frog said, “You will see.”

So, he ordered some pink cotton candy and handed it over to Cotton Candy. Well, she LOVED IT! She ate the entire stick of Cotton Candy.  When she finished, she had the biggest, baddest, stickiest lips you have EVER seen. Her lips were so sticky that before she knew it, bugs started sticking to them. Big Mouth Frog did not know WHAT to do. Cotton Candy started crying because she thought Big Mouth Frog was acting like she was ugly.

Big Mouth Frog said, “WHAT IS WRONG COTTON CANDY? WHY ARE YOU CRYING?”

“You think I am ugly with my sticky lips!”

“NO, I THINK YOU HAVE THE BIGGEST, BADDEST, STICKIEST LIPS I HAVE EVER SEEN.  NOW YOUR LIPS ARE AS BIG AS MINE!”

They both started laughing and continued their visit to the Fair. By the end of the night they had discovered that having big sticky lips helped them to catch all the bugs they could eat!! Together they decided the biggest, baddest, stickiest lips was a good thing.

This bedtime story was great, it brought giggles, grins and bright faces to my childrens face. It showed them that everything/everyone is not the same and it is ok to be different. They cannot wait to go see if they can find these two frogs in their neck of the woods. GrandBonnie, you did a wonderful job and now you have two more girls waiting to hear another chapter of the story, and I rate this story with five cookies.

Hey Bon….I would have sent you unlimited cookies, but settled for 5! You are my hero. Do you think you could come up with a bedtime story about the fairy princess that changed her name repeatedly? Love ya!

  • Bonnie Harrison

Just read your comment. Thanks for the cookies. Can't you round up some HCA votes for my story? I am struggling in 2nd place. Would love to win the illustrations. Now, about that other story you want me to write. I am not sure a child could hold their attention through that many name changes. Thanks again for your vote. Sweet dreams, buddy.
