Compare Your Zzzz Score to Betty White’s

You may have noticed the large graphic with the picture of Betty White on the front page of SleepBetter.org.  If you haven’t, be sure to read the announcement to which it links — that Betty White is partnering with SleepBetter this spring and summer.  She’ll be working with us on a great project (details coming soon!), and to get started we asked her to get her Zzzz Score™.  The Zzzz Score test helps you learn about your personal sleep style, and then gives recommendations on how you can sleep better.

Get your Zzzz Score by clicking here, then tell us in comments how your results compare your results to Betty White’s!  Here are her results:

As a moderately active senior female, you should be getting at least 8 hours of sleep per night. Since you are sleeping 5.01 to 6 hours per night, you really should find ways to sleep more and make sure the sleep you get is of the best possible quality. Some things you might consider are limiting alcohol and caffeine intake after 3pm as well as liquids after 8pm. You may also want to try to retire to bed one hour earlier or design your sleep environment with darker colors, low lights and calming sounds. In addition, exercising more may help improve the quality of your sleep.

Sharing a bed with a pet can often lead to sleep interruptions or increased risk of allergies or body aches. You may want to consider creating a more comfortable sleep environment for you both with your pet sleeping in their own area on the floor.

As a side sleeper, you may want to try a mattress or mattress topper of medium firmness. Also, one with multiple support sections will offer you the most support. Also, a pillow with more loft might be more comfortable. It’s probably time to replace those old pillows. After 9 months, your pillows have probably lost their freshness and any support they may have had. It’s good bedding hygiene to wash pillows every few months (if your pillows are washable) and replace them at least once per year. Most pillows come in various levels of firmness. Look for something with a soft or medium firmness. If your mattress is almost 10 years old, you may want to consider a new one but, if it is still comfortable, a mattress topper is a great way to get a few more years out of an older mattress that has lost some of it’s support.
