Sleep and the silver screen

The Sleep Blogger is in a Hollywood mood today, and for good reason: The Web is chock full o’ news about the entertainment industry and sleep. Let’s roll the tape.

A NEW DOCUMENTARY FILM will be released next week, called “Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy.” As the film’s Web site explains:

In this thrilling retrospective, fans will enter the world of Freddy Krueger and A Nightmare On Elm Street like never before: exploring what spurred mastermind Wes Craven to craft the first groundbreaking film; delving deep behind the scenes of the original and all of its sequels; learning how the cast and crew brought their worst nightmares to life; and finally, understanding the impact the series and its mythos have had on modern pop culture and the horror genre.

There are nine movies (so far) in this series. Maybe the tenth will reveal why people keep moving to Elm Street, where you could die if you go to sleep.

SPEAKING OF SLEEP PROBLEM, Gawker.com — the mack daddy of Web sites focused on news that nobody admits to reading, but everyone does anyway — included this item in a recent roundup of celebrity blind gossip:

[This] movie actor has terrible insomnia. It is affecting all sorts of aspects of his life both personal and professional. His performances have recently been criticized and not many people know it is because of his lack of sleep. Most importantly, he’s moved out of his wife’s bedroom originally because he couldn’t sleep while she was sleeping. Now the wife is feeling totally rejected and has taken the kids and moved out. This doesn’t help his anxiety over sleep.

All snarkiness aside, this guy (whoever he is) needs help. Then again, he’d fit right in on Elm Street, where everyone stays awake because they want to stay alive.

Women come and go, but a blanket is forever

FINALLY, A HOTEL WORKER IN HAWAII reveals that George Clooney never goes anywhere without his special blanket:

The 48-year-old actor takes the sheet everywhere with him, and insisted maids in Hawaii lay his bankie on top of his bed every day while he’s there shooting his latest film, “The Descendants.”. A worker at the Kahala Hotel in Honolulu told the Daily Star newspaper: “We had to lay it on top of his sheets when we turned down his bed. It was pretty funny. It looked a lot like a security blanket. George left it in his room when he checked out and we had to send it to his next address. He obviously can’t sleep without it.”

The unnamed actor with insomnia? Apparently it’s not George Clooney. He sleeps just fine, as long as he’s got his bankie.
