If you’re having marital problems, they may be due to more than simple fights. A recent study presented at the SLEEP 2011 conference indicated that wives who have trouble falling asleep are more likely to have negative emotions towards their significant other the following day. This does not necessarily mean sleeping less, but only that it takes a lengthy amount of time for them to actually fall asleep.
In order to conduct this study, the researchers used 35 healthy married couples. These couples wore motion sensors at night and kept diaries of their interactions during the day. It was found that women had more negative entries into their diary on days after they had difficulty falling asleep the night before. An interesting spin in this study was that the husband’s sleep problems did not seem to affect the marital relationship at all.
