Those who grind their teeth while sleeping can attest that it can cause a variety of problems. Recent research, however, may have found a remedy in an unusual form. A new study has shown that patients who had problems with chronic teeth grinding found relief from the use of Botox injections.
In this relatively small study, patients who suffered from night time teeth grinding received injections of Botox into the muscles of their jaws, while others received a placebo injection. It was found that those patients who received the Botox had significantly lower reports of pain and teeth grinding. Researchers say that although more studies need to be done in this area, this is a great breakthrough to help people be more comfortable sleeping without having to use mouth guards or other mechanical devices in their mouth.
