It can be difficult parenting a teenager. But, if you’re struggling with troublesome teen behavior, you might want to take a close look at why the teen is acting the way he is. A new study released from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that teens who get less than 8 hours of sleep each night are more likely to get into trouble and engage in risky behaviors.
During the study a survey was distributed to over 12,000 teens, of which nearly 70-percent said that they were getting less than eight hours of sleep each night. The students who were not getting the recommended hours of sleep were also found to be engaging in more risky behaviors than those who were sleeping the recommended amount. Fifty percent of those in the group who were not getting enough sleep reported drinking alcohol in the last month. Also, through the surveys it was found that those students who were sleeping under eight hours per night were more inclined to contemplate suicide, be more sexually active, and less likely to exercise.
