Those who like to sleep late now have some ammunition. A recent study out of Japan shows that those early birds may be at a higher risk to have a heart attack.
The research shows that “early to bed and early to rise” has an impact on vascular conditions, indicating that the duration of sleep may have less of an impact than previously thought.
Researchers found that when participants woke up an hour earlier than than usual, the risk of hardening in their arteries increased by 1.2 times. The average age of participants was about 57 years old, and researchers speculate that this is happening because as people age they tend to change their sleeping habits to going to bed early and waking early. This change in rhythm of sleep could be the culprit of the onset of cardiovascular issues.
