A recent study shows that mid day naps for youngsters may be even more important than we realized. The study, conducted at the University of Colorado in Boulder, revealed that toddlers who miss their daily naps are at a higher risk to develop mood disorders later on in life. Researchers examined children between the ages of 30 to 16 months. They found that the children who missed just one nap had higher levels of anxiety and less joy and interest in everyday things. When the children were given a puzzle, those children who had missed their nap showed a 34% decrease in positive emotional responses. These research findings prove that adequate sleep is just as important as nutrition for young, developing children.
