Recent findings from a study out of University of Notre Dame shows that the best way to retain new lessons is to ‘sleep on it’ after learning the new information. After analyzing the sleep patterns of about 200 students and then having those students complete cognitive tasks when waking up in the morning it was found that sleeping right after learning something increases memory. Researchers tested their findings taking into account both declarative and semantically related memory. These findings suggest that studying or going over work materials right before bed can help with recall the next day.
