Good Diet Linked to Good Sleep

What you eat has an affect on how well you sleep, and it’s not just about avoiding spicy foods late in the evening.  A new Harvard study on truckers and freight workers shows there is a link between good dietary habits and getting adequate sleep.  The trucker website eTrucker.com covered the story this week:

Study participants were over-the-road truckers, pickup and delivery truck drivers, dock workers or were employed as both truck drivers and dockworkers. They worked at eight trucking terminals in Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina and New Jersey.

Researchers concluded workplace health programs should be responsive to workers’ sleep patterns. They also noted a U.S. Department of Transportation survey indicating 90 percent of truck drivers are at least overweight and 50 percent are obese.
