Being drowsy during the day can cause many complications at work and in personal life, but the biggest threat from being drowsy is the risk for your life. Even if you don’t have a particularly dangerous job, being overly tired from a sleep disorder can lead to falling asleep at the wheel of your car.
A recent truck crash in the UK has raised questions about the procedures of professional drivers as related to sleep complications. After the crash took the life of Toby Tweddell, Toby’s father called for further investigation. It was found that the truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel was actually suffering from obstructive sleep apnea. The father of the victim is now pushing for all professional drivers to be pre-screened for these types of sleep disorders to prevent a tragedy such as this from happening again in the future.
