As of right now, it’s only available in The Netherlands, but a new device may help reduce incidences of drivers falling asleep at the wheel.
The new product, the Anti-Sleep Pilot, monitors drivers and their driving conditions, and alerts them when it’s time to pull over and take a rest. It calculates how tired the driver is by monitoring 26 different parameters. Multiple profiles can be stored on the device, and each driver is made to take a brief test before driving to determine their own personal risk of falling asleep at the wheel.
Once on the road, the gadget uses an accelerometer to determine how fast the vehicle is moving and issues alertness tests in which the driver must touch the device as soon as indicated to gauge reaction time.
