A new study based out of Taiwan shows a link between hearing loss and sleep apnea. This study does not suggest a cause and effect kind of relationship between sudden hearing loss and sleep apnea, but it does show a need for further research about how the two are linked. Researchers examined about 3,000 people who had been diagnosed with sudden hearing loss between the year 2000 and 2008. It was found that men who suffered from sudden hearing loss were 48% more likely to have been previously diagnosed with sleep apnea. Medical experts speculate that this link could be due to the rising and falling of blood oxygen levels that is associated with sleep apnea symptoms.
