Study: Seven Hours of Sleep Optimal for Teens

While most would say that nine hours per night is the optimal amount of sleep for teens, a new study refutes this idea … saying that seven hours is actually the appropriate amount of time. The research from Brigham Young University claims that students age 16 to 18 perform better academically with seven hours of shuteye. The research team found these results by comparing amount of hours slept to scores on standardized tests on a sample group of 1,700 teens. They note that on the opposite end of the spectrum, those teens who were only getting 5 1/2 hours of sleep per night, were under-performing on tests.
