Study Makes Sleep Recommendations for Hospital Patients

When you are ill or injured the one thing that seems to help most is plenty of rest. This notion has prompted a doctor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine to conduct a study on the amount of sleep patients are getting in the ICU. The goal of this study is to help those with ailments get the amount of sleep that they really need.

The preliminary research for this study has shown that 60% of discharged patients reported feeling sleep deprived during their stay in the ICU. Some components of the doctor’s study have already been adopted in the Arizona hospital, including no baths in the evening, dimming the lights, and no lab tests at night.
