What Are Your Sleep Resolutions for 2016?

We’re now a few days into the brand new year. Did you make any resolutions related to sleep? If not, perhaps you should start thinking of a few. Sleeping better can help you remain happier, healthier, and even assist with one of the most common resolutions — losing weight.  Here are a few suggestions for you as you consider your sleep resolutions:

  • Make time for more sleep: Why don’t we sleep enough?  Whatever the excuse, in today’s world it appears you have to actually schedule sleep.  Make time for at least eight hours.  Put it on your calendar if you have to!
  • Limit your use of caffeine: Caffeine generally isn’t harmful, but it can obviously keep you awake at the wrong time if you use it too close to bedtime.  Try to limit it to the morning hours if you’re on a traditional sleep schedule, and you should be just fine.
  • Conduct a bedding review: If your mattress, mattress topper or pillow are worn out, you’ve not created a proper environment for a great night’s sleep.  For example, pillows should be replaced every year or so.
  • Get plenty of exercise: This is a two-for-one resolution! Not only will you get your body in better shape, but it can also use up the energy that may be keeping you from resting quietly at night.

If you’ve made a resolution related to sleep, be sure to tell us about it in comments!
