Krysten Ritter Partners With Carpenter Co. and SleepBetter.org for the Great American Pillow Toss

RICHMOND, Va., July 17, 2012 – As an actress and producer, Krysten Ritter, star of ABC’s “Don’t Trust The B____ In Apartment 23,” keeps a busy schedule, so she knows what it’s like to have work get in the way of a good night’s sleep. That’s why she has teamed up with Carpenter Co. and SleepBetter.org to launch the Great American Pillow Toss (GAPT), a campaign to encourage Americans to do everything they can to sleep better – which often is as easy as simply tossing old pillows and bedding.

The ceremonial first pillow really flew – from a 23-foot tall pillow-tossing, Pumpkin-Chunkin built catapult.  At Ritter’s command, it hurled the first pillow across Campus Martius in downtown Detroit.  Hundreds of Detroiters came to witness the spectacle, to sample the latest SleepBetter.org products in a “pop-up showroom,” to take their Zzzz Score and to toss their own old, tired pillows away via catapult or trash-compacting truck.  Carpenter Co. replaced two-hundred old pillows with new “Made in the U.S.A.,” SleepBetter pillows.

“Krysten Ritter is as passionate about getting her sleep as we are about providing Americans with the information and products they need to sleep better,” said Dan Schecter, senior vice president of sales and marketing, consumer products at Carpenter Co. and creator of SleepBetter.org.  “Detroit works hard so it needs its sleep and the crowd downtown really embraced Krysten and this event. It was the perfect setting for the Great American Pillow Toss, part of our multi-year commitment to educate Americans about the critical importance of sleep and how a simple first step to get better sleep is to get rid of old, often unsupportive, pillows, and mattress toppers and pads.”

The Great American Pillow Toss continues through the summer with information about the benefits of sleep, with sleep tips and by communicating the importance of investing in the best pillows, mattress toppers and bedding possible. Visitors to the SleepBetter facebook page (www.facebook.com/sleepbetter) and SleepBetter.org will be asked to take a pledge to replace their old bedding and will be entered to win the GAPT contest with cash prizes totaling $4,000.
